Chess Club
Under the guidance of a renowned Chess instructor, the St. Alphonsus/St. Patrick Chess Club convenes weekly throughout multiple seasons, providing members with a comprehensive understanding of this intricate strategy game. Club members can participate in inter-school tournaments, competing against peers from neighboring schools in grade-level divisions. Through this engaging and mentally stimulating activity, our chess club members cultivate critical thinking skills, strategic problem-solving, and sportsmanship while fostering a lifelong passion for the game.
This is the thirteenth year of the St. Alphonsus / St. Patrick School Chess Club. The Chess Club meets on Wednesdays after school in the cafeteria for one hour. Students in grades Kindergarten through grade 8 are invited to join.... it is a great chance for girls and boys to do something at an any age but it presents a unique opportunity for our younger students because our athletics programs do not start until 4th grade. Currently our Chess Club has over a dozen members and has room for more!

The Chess club players from St. Alphonsus/St. Patrick School work hard every week with Coach Theo to hone their skills and learn new playing strategies. As evidenced by the many trophies in these photos, their practice has great results at tournaments with other schools. Our chess teams routinely bring home many team and individual trophies! Way to go Chess Club!
